2008 has come and go, though I must admit is the gift that keeps on giving. I’m leaving in 5 days for California and there I’ll spend a hectic and brief 16 days jaunting from Orange County to San Francisco and back, entertaining German friends and attending to family business all the while. So now there is calm. No one is in the apartment, no music is playing, no radio or TV, nothing, just the hum of the laptop.
I just got into the hammock and I’m lying next to the bag that I’m bringing home for Xmas. I still need to do a few things before going to California, namely buy a bottle of wine, buy Jakers a gift (probably a wooden car of some kind), teach 4 days’ worth of classes, turn in some invoices and that’s just about it.
Last night Franziska and I had dinner with her roommate and her boyfriend who just happens to be a friend of mine. I must admit, the couple is a bit strange together, no not strange, but they act in ways that they don’t act when they are apart. It’s hard to describe. But the guy did make some damn good lasagna last night and her tiramisu was tasty as well. We had some wine, although they had more than we did, and we finally peeled away around 1am, and walked to my place and started watching a West Wing until I fell asleep.
In 10 days I’ll be in Oakland.
In 23 days I’ll be in Hamburg.
In 70 days I’ll be in Fez, Morocco.
In 102 days I’ll be in San Francisco.
In 125 days I’ll be in Hamburg.
In 174 days I’ll be Jerusalem.
In 232 days I’ll be in Orange County.
In 286 days I’ll be in New York City.
In 293 days I’ll be in Freiburg again.
It seems that there is a lot of travelling planned for 2009.
